Ah an amazing art show is coming to town next week Ah an amazing art show is coming to town next week and it's getting me itchy! So here's a little 11x14 I have in progress. Oil on canvas board and just enjoying painting a random hill scape I shot on one of our trips. Get excited friends! The Great Western Art Show is coming to town, and I will be there with Legends West and Treasure State Lifestyles Montana Magazine to get everything on video!
This is a fun painting I've been working on this e This is a fun painting I've been working on this evening. Just covering over one of my failed attempts. Oil on canvas board 11x14.

The picture I used for reference is a picture I shot during one of our camping trips. I was enjoy testing out some new GoDox flashs that I was using for my portrait photography and I was messing with long exposure mixed with flash.
My wife has taken claim of this painting. I call i My wife has taken claim of this painting. I call it "the Spontaneous Curse". Because my wife and I love being spontanious in our travels, and... I painted this while I am healing up from Covid 19. Which has been quite a curse on both my wife and I. It hasn't been fun to heal up from it.

This was a picture I shot in Bozeman at our camp site. The view was stunning and I spent a lot of that evening snapping photos of the cloud that loomed over the mountain in the distance. I wasn't quite the biggest fan of this painting, but Mandi loved it. So it's all hers until someone makes an offer for it that we can't refuse. Lol!
I've realized very quickly about myself that I pai I've realized very quickly about myself that I paint too tightly. I would say many beginners hit that as one of their first stumbling blocks. Perfection requires tight painting right?!? Very wrong. So last night I grabbed a small 5×7 canvas panel and picked one of the harder pictures I had in my reference photos I shot while driving through Yellowstone and did my best to keep it a stroke by stroke rough painting. I'm actually pretty pleased with it and finished it within 1.5-2 hours. I need to get my speed up more, but seeing this river within a canyon and recognizing it as such, that was a win.
Last night I had some pretty successful moments. I Last night I had some pretty successful moments. I finished up three paintings. Two of them being studies and "plein air" style. Basically trying to knock them out as quickly as possible. I'm pretty sure this one was done under 2.5 hours. I can't say it's my favorite but the learning experiences continue to be awesome.
I'm so pleased with this little 9x12 oil on canvas I'm so pleased with this little 9x12 oil on canvas board. Overall this piece took me 2 hours which is the fastest I've done yet. I feel like I'm starting to get a feel for what I need to do when I try my hand at another "plein air" experience. So far I've only been working on pictures as I have other priorities and want to go out with some fellow artists. But my technique is quickly improving and that will be half the battle to painting on location. So the training continues! I also love that I took a picture that I took from our car window that most people would find... Meh, ok, and turned it into something I found beautiful. It's a step in the right direction and God is good, he keeps blessing me with new realizations of this passion every day. I'm fully inspired and desperate for more.
Gotta love a good antique store find. Seems barely Gotta love a good antique store find. Seems barely warn and got it for $35! It's definitely the highest quality hat I've ever bought. Looking forward to wearing this when I'm doing Plein air. Though I meant to find a cowboy hat to offer a bit more shade.
So excited to get my "Grand Tetons" painting all f So excited to get my "Grand Tetons" painting all framed up! This guy is available for sale and we should have some prints available in the next few weeks! @aretzaj will be handling my printing and if you need something printed in Great Falls, he's the guy to go to!
Great Falls/Helena artists, want to do some plein Great Falls/Helena artists, want to do some plein air tomorrow with me? I have the day off and I was going to head down recreation road to do some photography but I think I want to take that a step further and do some plein air. Would love to have some company! Um... Yeah Sammy was to get your attention. And yes, she will be with me tomorrow too. ;0)
With every pro comes cons. My F3 is having some pr With every pro comes cons. My F3 is having some problems with the Meter. So... Sometimes you gotta dive into the unknown to find success... Wish me luck
There is something so incredibly beautiful of a wo There is something so incredibly beautiful of a working vintage camera. I am so blessed to have such amazing friends that give me their gear. This camera hold extra special meaning because it belonged to a friend who I have constantly looked up to when I moved here to Montana. I wasn't sure if this camera would work and the lens that was on it showed quite a bit of damage and wear. But because my friend gave me a bunch of his workhorse cameras I was able to put a few of the cameras together to make one working camera so far! Incredibly exciting and ready to take this camera out and put it to work! Thank you so much John Godwin. These cameras are incredible and it is an honor to own and use some of your legacy.

It has been a bit since I have been able to share It has been a bit since I have been able to share any new art videos, which is unfortunate but I have been cranking away on several other large projects that help pay the bills. As always I have reorganized again to make use of my space to the best of my ability and these rolling carts are a HUGE help. More to come on this painting and I am deeply enjoying now getting down to tighter details that are beginning to bring out more of the beauty of the Tetons.
This weekend has been rather intense, yesterday mo This weekend has been rather intense, yesterday morning I found my laptop "puffing". Literally looking like it had too much to eat the day before. Opening it up I found my battery deep inside the laptop blown up like a balloon. When batteries get to this state they are incredibly dangerous and WILL explode. I have seen it happen many times before and it truly can be devistating, not just destroying your laptop, but burning down your house.

I have two very large Livestreams I've been hired to do and this laptop is my workhorse, so I had to come up with a backup plan, so I introduce to you (see second picture) my 1980s laptop. Lol! So my high powered desktop with a screen magnetically stuck to it's side. Works like a charm and technically is more powerful than my laptop... Slightly heavier... But it'll do!

Let this be a reminder to everyone for two things...

1. There is a God, the one only true God of the Bible that has constantly given his grace to me and saved me time and time again from true harm. I'm only alive because he continues to save me from situations like this.

2. If you even think your computer or cellphone is puffing, get it out of your house or to a repair shop immediately. No second guessing! I paid $53 for a new battery for my laptop coming in on Wednesday and I should be back up and running before the week is out. What's better? Your device exploding and possibly destroying your home, or yourself if it is in your pocket! Or spending a bit of money and getting it fixed. Pretty obvious.
The hand of a happy painter. The hand of a happy painter.
I'm really excited about this one... I started wit I'm really excited about this one... I started with a toned canvas and a few "ah-hah" moments happened. Honestly I could paint this all night if I didn't have to be up at 4am! This is about 2.5 hours of work and admittedly is the fastest I've ever worked on a painting. Incredibly pleased with how smoothly this is going! This is the largest canvas I have and the largest painting I've done yet. 18X24 acrylic on canvas board and I couldn't be more excited! Woot!!!
I think I found the saving grace for watercolorist I think I found the saving grace for watercolorists!!!
Father in Law to the rescue! Now I can stop spendi Father in Law to the rescue! Now I can stop spending a bunch of money on paints because I can SEE what I have in stock instead of keeping them all stashed in a tub.
So yeah this whole traditional painting thing is g So yeah this whole traditional painting thing is getting expensive... heh... I have been enjoying calling my new passion an "investment in my future" but yeah I admit its running the bank dry. SO this is the moment to make some extra sales in what I am known for! Leave the comment "I WANT ONE" below and I will direct message you to get you a proper quote!

Much love friends!
