When your wife is a happy customer and seems hones When your wife is a happy customer and seems honestly stunned and proud of you. That is the ultimate win for the day. Zoe says the jury is still out apparently. But knocked this frame together for my wife in about 4 or 5 hours. So this is the first official completed framed piece in our home. Now its her job to get it hung ;0) @mandi_ufferman with you by my side, I can't go wrong. Your pride in me is the ultimate joy.
Just need to do the smallllllest bit more with som Just need to do the smallllllest bit more with some chisels and I'll have this frame done, of course took a torch to it to give that shiny rustic vibe. It's a tiny frame for such a valuable piece to me. But being my first, I couldn't be more proud at the moment. Especially considering I did this in a 20 degree garage with numb hands. Very pleased and my brain is coming up with a million more theories. I'll get a better picture of this once I finish up cleaning up the painting and get it properly mounted into the frame.
Saying my measurements are a bit off on this would Saying my measurements are a bit off on this would be a bit of an understatement. But realizing I'm capable of making my own custom hand-made frames out of pallet wood (with a little bit of practice) couldn't be a more rewarding feeling for me right now. Thanks so much to my Father in Law for being so willing and kind to loan me so many tools to make this a possibility! @mandi_ufferman I think I may need some wood working tools for next Christmas;0)) #woodworking #measuretwice #lookslikea5yearoldmadeit #stillproud
I have decided to name this juvenile harpy paintin I have decided to name this juvenile harpy painting "Soul Searcher". He has been hanging in my studio for maybe 2 months and apparently gives my wife the heebie jeebies with his dark searching eyes that follow you wherever you go. Humble Harpy really opened my eyes to what I could be capable of with making choices on my own highlights and rim lights, and it made me very excited last night when I decided I would do that with "Soul Searcher" today.

For all my praying friends out there, please ask for God's will in my life and his wisdom. At the point in time I can share more I will. I'm in a difficult season right now and I believe firmly God has a plan, and nothing happens by accident. But prayer warriors would be great. Love you all!
Continuing my little miniature of a scene I enjoy Continuing my little miniature of a scene I enjoy very much. I photographed this image with one of my drones on a camping trip with my wife. I think I've painted it twice? And this one has been sitting around maybe 6 months. Instead of continuing where I left it. I decided I've learned so much since I started it to put fear to the side and engross myself in just fighting for the lights and the shadows, and I am so glad I did. Any time my wife walks into my studio and tells me one of my pieces looks really beautiful, I know I have a winner that just needs some more love. It's amazing how the smallest pieces can still give so much joy to the painter investing their heart in it. I don't know if I will ever get this piece to a point I will feel is complete, but I admit I don't care in the slightest. This journey is a beautiful one. And when you can feel that way about art, that is peace. Thank the lord for leading me into this amazing art form and showing me I am worth more than my cartoons and capable of more than my own assumptions.
Continuing my little miniature on wood panel. That Continuing my little miniature on wood panel. That I haven't touched in maybe 6 months.
I've done two paintings of this scene so far. The I've done two paintings of this scene so far. The first I gave to a close friend, the other is this study I did on wood panel. It's probably been 6 months or so since I touched it so let's see how much I have improved as I freshen it up with some of my new-found techniques.
I have had a dream for a long time to take somethi I have had a dream for a long time to take something that has been very successful and make it a year long show. It's only possible because I partnered with @treasurestatelifestyles . Now... I have a podcast that I get to do year around. Featuring amazing artists, historians, rodeos, VIPs, and oh, so, much, more. My heart is renewed, I am fulfilled, and I am loving this life of art and podcasting. I have told my wife and my friends that I will happily invest the rest of my life in these two passions, and with my wife by my side supporting me, I have no doubt in my mind that I will die with a fulfilled heart when God says it's time to head home. This is the WORK that isn't really work if you love what you do. I WANT MORE. I NEED MORE. My journey is just beginning.
The final touches of my feature piece for my art s The final touches of my feature piece for my art show are finally coming to and end. One final coat of black and covering the sides of the painting and once this dries. One final touch on the sides and it'll be time for gamvar and a frame! Ahhhh it'll be nice to call this guy finished!

Today I woke up before the sun and painted for an Today I woke up before the sun and painted for an hour before heading to work. I felt my painting that for now I'm calling the "Formal Boxer" is looking to illustrative and I want a bit more realism in him. So with a bit of adjustment, and some long brushes to focus more on shapes than details, I feel I made some very nice leaps forward to getting this closer to the result I want. Hope you enjoy and have a blessed day!

Yep I do a lot of gray backgrounds. I actually dec Yep I do a lot of gray backgrounds. I actually decided on this gray background because of a presidential portrait I saw and I liked how the room was around the subject and how he held onto a chair for his portrait sitting. So that is the route I am taking this one. I do wish I had put more of the body in the canvas, maybe to mid thigh. But at the same time I'm OK with this because it does focus all the attention on the very unique shapes of the Boxer face.
Continuing my formal painting portrait of this Box Continuing my formal painting portrait of this Boxer. This is a design I created back in 2013 and now taking that sketch and turning it into a full-blown painting. Lots of different references to make this one happen including poses of past president's official White House portraits.
Back in 2013 I drew a bulldog in a suit using a ba Back in 2013 I drew a bulldog in a suit using a ballpoint pen and I have kept that sketch till today. I've always enjoyed creating a series of characters that would be partners/workers/interns that worked in a lawyers office together. I never took it very far because I don't have the passion for comics the way I did in the past. But I did think it would at least be cool to do a few of my designs as formal painted portraits. So I'll start first with this Boxer. Any suggestions for a name for this guy? First and last name.
Don't forget if your seeing these images on Facebo Don't forget if your seeing these images on Facebook your missing the hundreds of hour by hour time-lapses of each of my paintings on Instagram. Come see them @official_legacystudio. I promise you'll be impressed!
