Damascus

Ed, what is the best procedure to etch your makers mark onto Damascus?

Thanks, Bruce

I sure hope other chime in on this one.  I'm a stamp guy (meaning that I hot stamp most blades).  However, I do "etch" on those blades that are too thin/small to stamp without distortion.

I have to admit that when it comes to "etching", as in using an etching machine, I am horribly lacking in skill!  Only about 1 of 3 marks comes out "good".    Personally, due to my horrible luck with etching, I am currently having those blades that I'd etch..... marked with a Fiber Laser that a local company owns/offers marking services with.

OK....all that being said, some of the most attractive "marks" that I have seen on Damascus blades have been accomplished by first masking off an area/circle/oval BEFORE etching the blade to achieve the Damascus pattern.... then, use that unetched area, to place their etched mark (hopefully if they have an sense...that mark will be a name) 🙂      If it the actual etching process you're asking about..... let us know and we will go into doing that.
